I originally posted a blog at my myspace account Thursday, June 28, 2007 titled.... MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST. I was very excited about Jamie Hewlett and the Gorillaz working on one of the great CHINESE CLASSICS of literature and also that my mate CHU had worked with Jamie on a promotional painted MONKEY TRAIN! (A virgin train decorated with characters from MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST) see CHU's YOUTUBE video!





Best known for their collaborative music project, Gorillaz’s Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn have been commissioned by BBC Sports to create a short animated film for the upcoming Beijing Olympics. Based on the classic Chinese tale, “Journey to the West,” the new story is entitled “Journey to the East” and features a more modern-looking Monkey King, who must travel on a cloud to the newly opened Bird’s Nest. -- www.psfk.com

CHINESE GORILLAZ AS A MEDIUM FOR POETRY.

Classic Oriental theatre and picture/poems rendered into a Hip Opera. Monkey: Journey to the West, in (2007), and so on through the emerald jungle of Orientalism and Modernism, now glossed with wind and rain of Wikipedia, Google, Youtube, Google maps, blogs, hyperlight communications. Next maybe the Vedas, the Sutras, the Dead Sea Scrolls, The Popol Vuh, Finnegans Wake i hope, the classics are made KNU. The entire Worlds classics of literature REANIMATED. A new paradigm shift, equivalent to mass enlightenment in some kind of Buddhist sense, illumination, lights, simply new light. If we could just choose to see it that way and awaken to the lower powered lights. Greet these holographic entities and make them welcome, they are here to stay with the tech support mist of mind. Monkeys in the mist. Fresh air rushes in-coming, the virus of language sneezed from outerspice. The end of word. burp!

Gorillaz are not the first virtual band they are one of the first really enlightened band, literally. They are light beings. Part human origin, part non-human, for the most part-unknown, artificially represented as present, being there. (avatar): Spooks, Phantoms, Projections, alien hyperlight beings etc. Not of the word. Beings of Monkey magic-LIGHT. Gorillaz are Aliens from another dimension. They have landed again. They are mythical magical beings; they have a strange new hemisemi-fictionalized history, partly based on real flesh and bloody humans but humans who sometimes pretend and imitate themselves and so making them also satisfactorily "unreal" and so falsifyable, and so "Real" again! and around we go! but they make up for this confusion with a very convincingly real presence when on the stage communicating through sound-waves and music. But writing about music is like blowing smoke rings about architecture so i'll leave that for crumbling music press. Monkey: Journey to the West seems more Real and interactive and present NOW than most political Puppets on the world stage in 2007. The hologramic projection equipment and the magic (Peppers Ghost Technology) provide Gorillaz with Monkey Magic, new creation engines, partly programmed by a real Chinese master - Chen Shi-Zheng. Gorrilaz' combine with the incredibly rich and incredibly vast portal of new discovery and rediscovery of The Orient, via Chen Shi-Zheng.

Joyce's Epiphany, McLuhan's "Electronic Orientalism" and the human tech-support team helping to translate and propagate a new hyperlite from a newBudust'" Sutra. Follow the journey of Wu Cheng'en and his experiences with a totalitarian Chinese culture intolerant of great poetry in a similar way to how totalitarian America was mostly Intolerant of Ezra Pound and totalitarian Great Britain was Intolerant of Oscar Wilde and other great genius of world literature.

Monsters and demons are trying to obtain immortality by eating flesh! This provides a large part of the plot in Monkey: Journey to the West. I am familiar with Immortality themes within some mythological contexts and some cannibalism in mythology and fairy lore may can be glossed as the trickery of prankster drug cultists who created "False" etymologies for certain species of sacred fruits to keep them hidden and hidden. Entheogens are chemical and biological candidates in for real ingredients within real wet dazzling "Immortality Elixirs" like Ayahuasca or other psychoactive brews, teas and snuffs. Monkey teached me to revisit the relationship between words and images and things. Poetry in the print media world now a unique kind of bridge-space between words and images. A GLUE that binds cultures, languages, history, religion, Law and science all together, a tale of a tribe, a modern verse epic, a cultural encyclopedia. See "The Cantos and Finnegans Wake! Imagism in the early 20th Century was heavily influenced by the relatively unknown, Ernest Fenollosa partly revived by Robert Anton Wilson and more directly by Ezra Pound who famously included many pictograms or word/images in his grand synthesis "The Cantos": A Globally oriented praxis of language and culture including Oriental cultures, especially Chinese languages. (which was a center study text in Wilson's course "The Tale of the Tribe" at Maybelogic Academy in 2004. I have come around and around to thinking that uncle Bob encouraged others to read and re-read Pounds Cantos so as to be sufficiently equipped with a single bound poetic guide (an oracle) to help us and our new emerging multicultural global community (VILLAGE) and our own relative comprehension of "reality" and "History" to boot as we crawl through the sewage of the 20th into the new 21st century e.v.Finnegans Wake is the other single bound Oracle that Robert Anton Wilson recommends. I would add his "Illuminatus!" to make three blinding bound Oracles for better processing 21st century life.

I use the term Gorillaz' to mean Human beings and alien light beings, a part of the many collaborators who are Gorillaz tech-support mist in some sense, the production crew, the multiple personalities behind the metaphorical curtain of a 21st Century virtual band.

Monkey: Journey to the West maybe a knu catalyst for a new paradigm shift in the western lands if we see it clearly due to the new means of community within which classic literature from the Orient and all over thw world can begin to weave its magic "binding" qualities. Everyware! And catalyze the sort of cultural exchange and feedback the modernists would have liked, i guess. The classics of Oriental culture translated for a Western world word 3 experiencing alphabet psychosis.

Canto CXII has approx. 30 lines, 2 Chinese Ideograms and 2 Naxi Pictographs.
It comes toward the last pages of Ezra Pound's "Tale of the Tribe".
A book i have been reading and reading about for 4 years now.
Unless, indirectly through the writing of Robert Anton Wilson,
i have been preparing to read and write about
"The Tale of the Tribe" for approx. 8 years now?

It strikes me today preparing this post
how i was so close, but so far from the contents of canto CXII
living in San Francisco in a small apartment that had a copy of
Pound's Cantos (my first ever glance at the book) Jan. 2001 A.D.
I have seemingly come full circle in 2008, back to that glancing moment
by way of Naxi and Canto CXII (112) by Ezra Pound.
My mind boggles at what might have been in the other books upon
that bookshelf? or what i may have learn't if i would have listened
to my partner at that time.

Within canto CXIi and the force-field of literature
and criticism surrounding it all like gas,
i arrive back at the beginning of my contact with the text.
And with a beautiful young lady.

Lijiang in remote southwest China has been a hot tourist destination ever since its inclusion in the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites. Many have attributed this distiction to the legacy of the American botanist Joseph Rock (1884-1962), including his monographs and books about the Naxi ethnic group inhabiting the Lijiang area. Some have also linked this honor to Forgotten kingdom, a 1955 book by the Belarus-born traveller Peter Goullart. Few are aware of Pound’s contribution to this glory. Music appears to contribute a refreshingly large part of the Naxi language and culture and scripture. Maybe Ez liked the Singing matter, shouting matter, and strange ceremony of these Shamans because they embody his rather strict conditions for a "Tale of the tribe"? An aboriginal tribe of magico-shaman-painter-poets? Muan Bpo & co.

This is the first in a series of articles that will present singularly fascinating industrial hemp items from private or public collections. Almost any category of curiosity can qualify as long as it is made of hemp and/or used only for hemp related activities and as long as it is accompanied by sharp photos and a short article. The Naxi God's Road funerary scroll pictured and described in this article is an excellent example of a fashinating hempen collectible. It is genuinely made of hemp, it is obscure enough to be rare, it is well enough documented so that an interesting history presents itself, similar pieces from public collections have been published, it was recently purchased and most importantly-fellow hemp collectors still have enough of a chance of finding another one to continue searching.

The Nakhi are thought to have come originally from Tibet, and until recently maintained overland trading links with Lhasa and India. They were brought to the attention of the world by two men: the American botanist Joseph Rock, and the Russian Taoist doctor Peter Goullart, both of whom lived in Lijiang and travelled throughout the area during the early 20th century. Peter Goullart's book Forgotten Kingdom describes the life and beliefs of the Nakhi and neighbouring peoples, while Joseph Rock's legacy includes diaries, maps, and photographs of the region.

The Nakhi form one of the 56 ethnic groups officially recognized by the People's Republic of China. The official Chinese government classification classes the Mosuo as part of the Nakhi people. A secret cabal and myself have both been reading and studying many texts and ideas put together by RAW, for me over just the last 10 years, but with a more intense and deeper study over the last 6 years that has included remarkable meetings with him and equally remarkable internet supported--Edutainment classes--with him and many other RAWfull minds at the Maybelogic Academy from 2004-2006.

Around the period that RAW went passing through the Lower lights and bardo states into that great Gig in the numberless skies, i was rather frantically writing and going back through my notes to try and represent RAW, to pay tribute to him, his lives and ideas. Roughly eleven months later, after many inspiring and ground breaking multimedia tributes around the world to RAW, i feel like i have a title: RAWrientalism.

"This book intends to change your way of percieving/conceiving the world, without drugs or drums or voodoo, simply by using words in certain special ways." --RAW, E-mail to the Universe.

RAW's condensed experience montage or "coex system" of communication, his certain special ways of using words and language have a distinctive "Oriental" flavor to them. Rawrietalism is related to the spatialized conceptions of time in themes of Chinese poetry. Ezra Pound and James Joyce as two great western WARRIORS, whose glossings RAW applied like a Renaissance master; to finish off a Canvases at the exhibit of his Oriental Coex Systems: Taoism and Quantum Mechanics. RAW's first published article called "The Tao of Joyce. (Realist 1959)" makes clear to me that RAW was involved deeply in RAWrientalist studies for over fifty years. "Taoists were familiar with these relativistic considerations long before Einstein." he writes.

"The purpose of this present brief essay is to show that the Chinese philosophy of the Tao contributed largely to the shape of Joyce's affirmation. "Laotsey taotsey" (page 242), or Lao-Tse's doctrine of the Tao, explains a great many things about Finnegans Wake: the river-woman symbol, the Shem-Shaun dualism, the special quality of Joyce's humor, the "time" philosophy underlying its form." --RAW.

The meters of RAW's prose and the collision of iconographic images from the History of the world, and popular western culture attain the goals set by Ezra Pound, James Joyce, Marshall Mcluhan, Timothy Leary but with just words. Just words and a limitless imagination and optimism and compassion to fill their boots. To calibrate and sensitize the neural mechanisms of perception, to help us "see" better. To attain Relaxation and powerful insights and an increased sense of the contents of one's memories. Technically and methodologically RAW delivers neuro-linguistic equations, balanced and tested and re-balanced, grammatically balanced, semantically balanced with the engineering skills of any Watchmaker or Geneticist.

I think that a kind of sub-structure or "binding" agent throughout RAW's texts, this language vs. the equation equation; has the strongest affinity with the principles of Taoism and Quantummechanics, that i can locate. If the paradox of locating the "non-local" in RAW literature helps describe a "non-thing": invisible RAWrientalism, "Coex systems" which conceal themselves everywhere within the environment, maybe comparable with what Philip K. Dick describes as ZEBRA and VALIS?

This remarkable and limitless abilities that RAW had for understanding Mathematical structures, logics, probabilities, operationalist languages, General Semantics, Clionical and Experimental Psychology, Journalism, Prose Fiction, Critical writing and letter writing were all used in a humanitarian effort to balance the equation IMHO.

Maybe RAW's technical and practical skills as a satirist and writer are equalled elsewhere in the dungeons of the literary world, but it was the content, both the quality of the subjective content and the "time-binded" always challenging, cultural content of RAW's writing that sets him apart from everybody else. The despicable, the Taboo, the stuff that nobody else sane dare write about, these are the things RAW applied his Genius and methodological "process" too, and so freeing all humanity from the chains of fear and Terror that hold us down. Somebody unafraid to follow their own way to resolving their life-cycling equations. Always questioning everything wherever it takes the mind, but holding true to structures and frameworks and models at the same time. And having good cheer and Hilaritas. A balanced "center" or balanced "Stereo" mix between left and right brain characteristics. What i choose to call Rawriental Daoism.

Raw's Ideogramic Method?

"The Tao is in the dung," said Chuang Chou.

RAW managed to distill "ideogramic Method" through the lens of Ezra Pound as, what i now newly call; RAWriental perception--a window of visual meaning with an equal persuasion and power as linguistic sequence. "ideogramic Method" makes sense as a typical Rawriental journey beyond language where alphabet, predicate and subject seem to deconstruct, synthesize and resurrect themselves into a picture-word, a sigil, or a poetic experience of "epiphany" in the mind. But writing about pictures like writing about people in this special way seems to me to contains a continuous flow backwards and forwards, a "process" of metempsychosis. A constant questioning and establishment of free-space for "mind" to add its own subjective meaning and playful commentary. Like the "space" a legendary Jazz master would create seemingly out of nothing, again the fullness of emptyness; expansion and contraction, appearance and disappearance, the non-location of the Tao in Raw's writs.

My tribute to RAW for the most part relates to the peace that comes from balanced communication, his Taoist, Zen-Buddhist qualities as a wise man of the West and his continued influence on peaceful optimistic and co-operative communications between cultures. Spreading Oriental like intelligence of a beneficial nature to allsentient beings.

I have being research-ching into some Chinese poetry and culture, mostly through the lens of Ezra Pound via Dr. Robert Anton Wilson, over the last 5 years.

Pound seemed interested in SPORTING ECONOMICS. And he invented Chinese poetry for the western world. During the Beijing Oilympics 2008 i will be returning to Ezra Pound often.

Confucius or K'UNG Fu-TZU (Kong Fuzi) (551-479). Chinese philosopher. Unsuccessful in his political career, he spent his late years editing classics and teaching disciples from all parts of China. Confucian thought appealed to Ezra Pound as humanist discourse. He translated into English the first three of the Confucian Four Books: Da xue as Ta HIO (1928) and The Great Digest (1947); Zhong yong as The Unwobbling Pivot (1947); and Lun yu as Confucian Analects (1951). Confuciansim plays an important role in The Cantos. EP's Confucianism is treated in Mary Paterson Cheadle's Ezra Pound's Confucian Translations (1997) and Feng Lan's Ezra Pound and Confucianism (2005).

FENOLLOSA, ERNEST (1853-1908). American orientalist. After a tewlve-year sojourn in Japan he became the curator of oriental art at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (1890-7). His Epochs of Chinese and Japanese Art was published posthumously in London in 1912. In 1913 his widow Mary Fenollosa entrusted to EP his notes and manuscripts, which yielded Cathay (1915), "Non" or Accomplishment (1917), and "The Chinese Written Character as a medium for Poetry" (1919).

King Wen (11th Century). Father to China's third dynasty Zhou. After capture and imprisonment, he continued to fight the Shang, a dynasty eventually overthrown in the hands of his son King Wu. The wonderful story of Jesse Owens seems like a fairy tale to me, a modern folk tale in which the skill, dexterity and physical ability of a single individual human being overcomes and dances-a-jig upon the face of evil political super-power, in the Jesse Owens case Adolf Hitler, and one of the most violent and openly hateful super-powers in history--The Nazi Party.

In 2008 this tale of a good hero overcoming an evil villain, or at least dancing upon the face of evil--if you wish to adopt the popular dualism good/evil--seems an encouraging one we can all learn from. A Positive story of an individuals brilliance demonstrated through skill and endurance. I think that the general heart, of all humanity, or an approximation of all humanity would agree that if you can show your the BEST, then fairs fair. You are the best, or fastest, or highest scorer or most original, and the list goes on and on with adjectives to describe WHY somebody is GOOD. Not just good, but VERY VERY good. Some might even say the best, although i doubt that Tina Turner had table-Tennis in mind when she wrote "Simply the Best"? Many other songs with the words GOLD. WINNER. BEST in them get prescribed by our Big Telecommunication Brothers.

objectivity and fairness seem to become hyper-skewed around the language surrounding Sporting events, especially the OLYMPICS. Sometimes i think that violence and tribal tensions in many cities across the world are aggravated by BAD LANGUAGE use by the media and the press. There is always an very obvious dualism when TWO teams are playing one-another, but to slip outside of the SPORTS GAME itself into the social, political, economic, gastric and other areas of human experience with this dualistic view seems a terrible blow to any neurological revisions or peaceful-poetic modes of communication.

And frustratingly to me, SPORTS seem to hold mostly VERBS in their track-pack. But to begin mixing metaphor's and facts together when writing or talking about Sports, or sports people: ATHLETES brings up many problems. At least to my understanding. The WHY question arises often. Why are the sports-people doing such and such an event, and not ________ sporting event? WHO MAKES THE RULES? And of course there is the giant carbuncle on the WORLD SPORTING COMMUNITY: DRUGS. (Or some drugs, not all drugs. Sugar seems to still be tolerated and at the heart of most sporting sponsorship deals.

But before i get into the paradoxes and more negative criticisms of the Olympic Games, SPORTS in a general sense, and the language by which we describe these activities; i would like to refocus upon Jesse Owens, and call for everybody to excel in whatever it is they are GOOD at. Practice your crafts and activities and don't be afraid of the big bad wolf, or the so called super-powers. Hopefully by 2012 the world will have lost its fascination with SPORTS CELEBRITY ICONS and re-focused attention on the process of the activity that they are actually doing. And then asking what else can they do? And why are our political puppets on the TV screen, the most un-sporting individuals upon planet earth!

Maybe we should look for our LEADERS and government officials among those who have a great sporting ability and/or accomplishments? Quick in body quick in mind? or Robot Mind robot body?

Well one view: sports is sports. Politics and governance is politics and governance.
Ice cream is ice cream. Horse dung is horse dung. The Mixing of these terms can bring to mind, and page, some nasty smells and sights. Mixing up an INDIVIDUAL with the NATION they are representing visualized as the flag-costume that many athletes pimp. Unable to wear their own colors? Literally wearing the COLORS AND SYMBOLS of THEIR pirate slave nation. But in the process world this seems to me like only going half way. Why not wear your nations statistics, constitutional documents or MOTTOS, or their BEST Graffiti? You want to play communication and costume games.



ZEN and the art of Oilympic Engineering.

I fess up that i don't really know ZEN, but ZEN knows me i suspect, and when i read about ZEN, swordsmanship, calligraphy and Tea Ceremony i get the feeling that they have a similar sentiment as i, when asking questions about SPOTSMANSHIP, Sports, Athletes, Games and Rules. Some Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian thinking and ancient wisdom also feels inviting with its flexibility towards WHY people do activities.

Although ZEN seems defined by the Japanese Culture and its Master Teachers, China also has many ZEN like qualities, and when you dig into it you can make ZEN, Confucianism, Taoism and other forms of Buddhism interchange many positive attributes between one another. Respect of others, oneself and the environment. And they can also be shown to carry less appealing traits depending on who is carrying and translating the signals.

Here in the West it seems a similar situation to me, but with a stronger wind blowing dogmatic certainty in all directions from some but not all of the Christian, Judean, Islamic world views. And with an unfortunate fascination with WHO's GOD is better and more rightfully certainly better than another's. Such are the pitfalls of monotheism, church/state capitalism and Alphabetic Monopoly. I think the same BAD influences and impulses are at work in the Communist East and the Democratic West. The bridge can be constructed or burnt down depending on WHAT it IS you are doing. WHY you do what you do. WHO benefits from your activities. These impulses or the meaning behind the meaning and beyond classification, due to the language barrier between western-occidental Alphabet cultures and more Eastern-Oriental Ideogramic Cultures. Impulses are very hard to represent scientifically, but with sports and games and athletics we have an open invitation to ask these questions, but when the economic and political drives/impulses far out balance any artistic or poetic drives/impules we have a CONTRADICTING GAMES.

Imagine if the United Nations, The Olympic Committee and the World Bank, IMF etc. all gathered to compete? But in 2008 the GAMES are changing. THE NEW GLOBAL GAMES ARE EMERGING. Without any rules, the EARTH is begging to play GAMES. And if our HUMAN games do NOT begin to include a HEALTHY PLANET EARTH and environment soon. The GAMES may appear to be a posh get together of the worlds elite sports-priests to sell whatever it is their NATION state is selling. As POLITICAL ACTION AND PROTEST will not be tolerated at the Olympic Games and most sporting events to be frank, then the possibility of a cultural exchange and a playful loving get-together goes out the window. But still the question begs.

WHY NOT get the leaders, KINGS and Queens, Emperors and Princes, CEO's and Major BIG shot REAL Estate owners and HOLY chosen ones to COMPETE! COMPETE. PITCH you skill and wisdom up to the world! We are ALL WATCVHING NOW! So why not use the GAMES as a window of communication, without RULES. With Impulses to PLAY and test and learn and feedback with each other?

What of Literature, ART, Music, Economics, Medicine, Cooking? they are all a part of the OLYMPIC or SPORTING EVENT, but unless they are from a corporation that is paying some FATMAN somewhere, they cannot communicate. No matter how GOOD. FREE. Beneficial and humanitarian the case may be. The Olympic Games will NOT become a POLITICAL and/or Economic GAMES, but a purely SPORTING EVENT. In the spirit of fair play, you know, like the war in IRAQ (Gagging)

I echo the fact that 'no one has written anything decent about sports except HOMER (In snatches). And if you write artistically about speed, the color, and the sound and fury of boxing, you'll find it more difficult than writing about the echoes of Confucius, Buddha or Finnegans Wake. HAN and T'ANG dynasties emphasized sports besides the arts. MING and CH'ING dynasties relegated athletics to an inferior position. The greeks were aware of the importance of exercise.'

Now America and the United Kingdom and much of the world is in the throws of ATHLETIC GODS taking over the entire planet. Better writers than writers. Better politicians than politicians. Scientists. Talk show hosts and sales people for the SUGAR industry. I am being a bit negative again here, but thats because i see a contradiction GAME being played out. How can you support a team that is sponsored by a company that robs you? Rob them back? Rub their back. Write on?

It seems the Olympic Games and most Sporting events attract Testosterone and ALPHA Male activity, even in some female competitiors. Gymnastics has become a kind of strange celebration of what i see as female, but thats my subjective view. Of course women should be able to compete in sports and athletics like any man, also a man should feel comfortable playing cook or nurse. Here we have an example where these activities are not really conducive to the OLYMPIC games, OLYMPIC COOKING? Fastest, most nutritious, Biggest? sort of breaks down a bit. But still, why are only the current official OLYMPIC ACTIVITIES mostly physical strength and endurance activities opposed to skill and intelligence activities?

I hope i have raised some questions, and i hope to come back and wax on more about SPORTS LANGUAGE and COMMERCE.
